Turf's Up - 25 Years in Business

    Everything we do is GREEN!

    Hello,

I'm Bill Schaefer, owner of Turf's Up and I would be doing the seeding on your project personally.

Turf's Up was started mid-1980's in the Adirondacks of Upstate NY. It is an off shoot from a landscape, greenhouse, florist operation that my wife and I owned and ran for 10 years.

In 1991 being tired of winters, we sold the business and moved Turf's Up to Sarasota. We were one of the first Hydroseeders in the area and it took some time to prove that Hydroseeding is a cost effective alternative to sod and drill seeding. It caught on and today is widely accepted as a great way of grassing and erosion control.

Our clients vary from homeowners, municipalities, road builders, building contractors, sod companies and site developers.

Each job is different and has its own unique challenges.

We've hydroseeded a large variety of interesting projects: churches, schools, airports, environmental clean-up, canals, lakes, golf courses, water treatment plants, developments, farms and homes to name a few! We even once worked in a nudist colony.....Oh my!

We cover the following Countys: Sarasota, Manatee, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, DeSoto, Charlotte and Lee. Cities including Sarasota, Bradenton, St. Petersburg, Tampa, Brandon, Arcadia, Tarpon Springs, Venice, Englewood, North Port, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Fort Myers, Orlando and Ocala. We will travel farther for sizeable jobs.

We are a family owned and operated business with a hands on attitude. Our company is well equipped for that backyard project, horse pasture, or large acreage hydroseeding. As we work with several quality sod companies we can easily accommodate a seed plus sod project. Taking pride in our fast service and a clean job, we're always happy to answer your questions and give a price quote. Fully licensed and insured we look forward to serving you!

    Sincerely,
    W.D. Schaefer

Turf's Up Hydroseeding in Action

HYDROSEEDING

There's a better way to install residential and commercial lawns -- hydroseeding. This process used by professional turfmen in many areas to install premium lawns is rapidly gaining recognition throughout the country.

WHAT IS HYDROSEEDING?

Hydroseeding is a process of mixing seed, fertilizer and fiber-mulch with water to be sprayed onto designated lawn areas. The mix is made using correct proportions inside a tank. The process is less than half the cost of sod!

THE BENEFITS

  1. Higher percentage of seeds germinate faster.
  2. Grass plants survive longer.
  3. Soil erosion is greatly reduced.
  4. Distribution of seed, fertilizer and mulch is uniform.
  5. Improves versatility to seed tough areas, i.e irregular slopes or berms, ditches and narrow strips.
  6. Seed mixes are tailored to the site according to sun exposure and lawn usage.
  7. No masking is necessary for walkways, flowerbeds, walls and construction obstacles.
  8. Mulch turns to humus becoming integral part of soil.
  9. Lawns develop more plush and full.

WHY HYDROSEEDING IS DIFFERENT!

Germination: Mixing seeds, fertilizer and mulch together leads to encapsulation within water-retaining mulch. Since seeds require moisture and warmth to germinate, the process causes "jump start" in the growth cycle.

Chemistry: The fertilizer (and lime or sulphur if needed) placed in solution, quickly adjusts the existing soil chemistry to provide for sturdy grass plant growth.
Grass roots develop in chemically balanced soil, thereby enjoying a stimulus when needed most.

Moisture control: The fiber mulch retains water longer than straw and many other mulches.
It acts as a soil stabilizer to slow down water and wind erosion. Reduces surface evaporation from the soil. Provides outstanding germinating medium as it traps moisture around the seeds, as well as wicks moisture to the seed - crucial for grass root formation.

Value: The carefully proportioned materials mixed together thoroughly together in a homogeneous slurry provides an idea medium for:
  • Fast and efficient application
  • Quicker germination
  • Higher percentage of germination
  • Uniform coverage
  • Rapid plant growth
  • Plush lawn

Eventually, the mulch becomes humus added to the soil. The end result -- a lush, long lasting lawn at a most reasonable cost without the negatives of dry seeding with separate applications of fertilizer, seed and straw.
